127 hours

What do I have I to say about 127 hours? Well unless you've been hiding under a... hmmm, scratch that - I think you all know what this story is about. Guy goes for a hike alone in the middle of nowhere, tells no one where he's going and then proceeds to get his arm stuck under a rock and is stuck there for an insanely long time. You've seen a similar story before, you've seen a special on TV or the movie in one way or another along these lines - "I shouldn't be alive!" I hear ya - but this movie was INSANE. I didn't feel any Hollywood hype here. They told this story so well and didn't just leave you with some guy in a hole whining for the whole movie (which I was afraid was going to happen). I'll tell you what tho - I just don't know what kind thumbs up or thumbs down to give here. I honestly cant remember the last time a movie made me so insanely fidgety. I'm pretty sure I screamed at least once. I think I cried at least twice. Additionally I probably muttered Holy Shit about 900 times. With that said I guess it really was a really good movie...however you really need to watch this at your own risk. (don't be a sissy, watch eet)

Blue Valentine Review

Blue Valentine: One and a half thumbs up.

This true-to-life storytelling of a couples journey was not exactly what I expected. Overall it was really a pretty gritty tale yet it still somehow managed to not be pretentious at all. Nearly all the scenes felt very personal, and as a result you felt either uncomfortable or a part of some of these very intimate moments, sometimes both. I liked the way they laid out the movie, jumping back and forth between past and present - but in some instances i did think it took a little away from the emotion of the scene. Hmmmmm, I might be contradicting myself there. Oh well. My only other critique would be that despite the fact that this was a movie about emotions, it felt like there were chunks of the movie missing explaining some the reasons for the couples actions, particularly the girl. That could have been simply a little over acting on her part, but I'd be interested to see what hit the editing floor. Anyway, without continuing to give much more away I will say that I would certainly recommend this movie to just about anyone (over 18) and all the things I didn't like about the movie are all the reasons why it left me wanting for the movie to go on.
